Emission testing was designed to cut smog emissions
from cars, trucks and buses.
Driving clean means keeping your vehicle well tuned
and maintained. Vehicles that receive regular tune-ups and are in good
working condition use less fuel, and emit fewer pollutants into our air.
Ontario's Drive Clean Program is cutting smog-causing pollutants from vehicle
sources in the program area.
Ontario's Drive Clean program is concerned with
helping us make smart choices about the way we
maintain and drive our vehicles. Driving clean
can save you up to 10 percent in annual fuel consumption
and prolong the life of your vehicle. But more
importantly, you will be doing the right thing
for the air that we breathe.
In Ontario, cars, trucks and buses are major sources of smog pollution,
especially in densely populated urban areas. These
smog causing pollutants include nitrogen oxides,
volatile organic compounds and fine particulate
matter. Improvements in the design of vehicle
exhaust systems have reduced pollution from individual
vehicles. However, total emissions are expected
to increase because of the growing numbers of
vehicles on the road. Poorly maintained vehicles
also contribute to pollution.
